B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends is a twin-stick arcade style action game set in the year 2083. The story follows TOM, a young robot who is thrust into battle when his home is attacked by hoards of mindless robots called G.A.R.D. units. The intruders are searching for a super computer named MOTHER, which is rumored to be hidden somewhere within the mega corporation known as Innovation Robotics. In his desperation to feel ready for an upcoming evaluation TOM is searching for his Mother. Is this MOTHER computer and his own MOTHER one in the same? Does he even have a Mother?
With the help of companions BRI, RED, and STU, TOM and the others must fight back G.A.R.D. and find the location of the MOTHER computer. As the Bots search Innovation Robotics, they encounter and rescue helpful robots called Robofriends. Even though they are not made to battle, the Robofriends rise to action when rescued by the Bots. Robofriends provide unique ways to aid you against the invading enemies. From healing your Bot, to protecting with a bubble shield, or even blasting your enemies with fire!
Play by yourself or with friends, picking from one of four robot characters with unique attributes and attacks. Utilize upgradeable abilities in battle for fast paced combat, consuming a recourse called Scrap to execute powerful abilities. Search for 20 different types of Robofriends, and master their abilities while immersed in story mode or surviving the hoards of arcade mode.

B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends originally began as a phone game, using the touch screen to move and attack with a squad of robots. This build was demoed at Sakura Con 2015, where fans were excited about the game, but wanted to play it on PC rather than a tablet. The phone market is filled with micro-transactions and advertisements, and that was not the kind of game we wanted to sell. So the team departed from the phone market, and began development for PC.
B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends went through a big transformation as it became less of a concept, and more of a design. Using Game Maker Studio we created the first level of the game, and once again demoed it, this time at Emerald City Comic Con 2017. The fans loved it - but something was still missing. The last iteration of the game began, this time with the use of 3D graphics, and the game development engine Unity. B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends has always been about bringing families together, from the co-opertive 4 player story mode, to the use of classic camera angles that people who played Super Nintendo and Atari are familiar with and can enjoy. It has been a long journey to make B.O.T.S. and the Robofriend everything that the fans desired, and we were happy to reach for that bar every step of the way.
How do I use Steam's Remote Play Together feature?
After launching B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends, Open the steam overlay. Right click on your friend, and select "Remote Play Together" to send an invitation to play and chat together! Once they accept, they will be able to use their controller and connect as an active input device for B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends by pressing any button on their controller.
I'm trying to use mouse and keyboard but my friends keep moving my cursor!
In the steam overlay for Remote Play, you can disable any joining player's mouse, keyboard, or controller inputs by clicking on them. Unfortunately, you cannot disable the host's keyboard and mouse input though, so if you're hosting for a friend using the single keyboard and mouse input, you will need to be careful! Unplugging or flipping the hosts mouse upside down to insure there were no inputs helps greatly for non-host keyboard and mouse use.
Can my friend and I both use keyboard and mouse controls?
Unfortunately, Remote Play Together essentially allows your friends to send keyboard inputs through the same keyboard as you, therefore we have no way to determine which user the input is coming from. Because of this, we've designed B.O.T.S. and the Robofriends to support one keyboard and mouse user. The remaining input devices must be controllers, but can be located anywhere. Have two friends that live together? They can both join their controllers through a single Remote Play Together session!
My friend disconnected and their character is now stuck in my game!
Don't worry! Remote Play Together adds players back into your game in the same order you add them, so all you need to do is invite your friends again and have them join in the same order as before, and they will be added back in as the same characters they were playing.
